Colorful Tropics from Barbara Bieraugel
We were thrilled to find another beautiful project in our inboxes a few days ago, this time from designer Barbara Bieraugel! “Colorful Tropics” is quite a treat for the eyes, don’t you agree?
Here is a note from Barbara about her inspiration behind the quilt:
The inspiration for this quilt comes from all the beautiful flowers that we enjoy here in Hawaii. When I was browsing through the Island Batik fabrics with my fabric rep, I was looking for oranges, yellows and golds which are very dominant here. When I came upon IB88-J1, I knew I had a multicolored fabric that I could pull my colors from. It wasn’t until I was done with the center of the quilt that it dawned on me that I really was using the colors of the rainbow in the quilt. And here I thought it was flowers, sky and ocean! With the rainbow in mind I went with a pieced border to emphasize the rainbow. It was the perfect touch to Colorful Tropics. For the applique, I wanted something quite simplistic and the bird of paradise in a sort of art deco design fit quite nicely. This sampler pattern is great to use as a Block of the Month quilt and the blocks work together making it look more complex than it is.
You can find this pattern, Colorful Tropics #BBD2, right here. Thank you, Barbara, for using Island Batik fabrics and for sending this beautiful project our way!
