Happy Birthday EQ!

The Electric Quilt Company is turning 25 years old this year! The company is celebrating all year long with promotions and giveaways, and this month we’re kicking the celebration up a notch with a joint giveaway! Read on for details.

Electric Quilt is a quilt design software package that quilt designers, new and experienced, use to help to design and build their works of art! EQ7, the latest version of the software package, allows users to work with existing blocks or create original blocks, experiment with layouts, work with fabrics from leading manufacturers or their own stashes, print yardage requirements and much, much more!

Many of our designers and Ambassadors use EQ7 for their own projects. Here’s what a few of these EQ Artists have to say about using the program!

“I love being able to truly conceptualize a concept before cutting any fabric!” – Marlene Oddie, KISSed Quilts

“I like being able to play with blocks, trying different fabrics and not wasting fabric is a huge plus. My favorite tool is the fussy cut tool as you can see just what your finished quilt will look like! It is β€œpurrfect”! Nan Baker, Purrfect Spots Designs

“I love to use EQ to draw my paper piecing designs! It allows me to print them to any scale with nice thin lines to sew on.” – Suzy Webster, Adventurous Applique and Quilting

“Designing patterns is much easier, faster and accurate using EQ!” – Anna Branch, Archangel Creations

“I love the fact that I can print out rotary cutting instructions for my blocks, as well as the fabric requirements for the quilts I design. I also love being able to export images that I can use in writing a pattern.” – Pamela Boatright, Pamela Quilts

“What’s not to love? I love playing with it, designing quilts and turning them into quilts and patterns that I publish. I do bi weekly tutorials on my blog (have been for a few years now). I LOVE EQ!!” – Bea Lee, Beaquilter

“Sometimes I just use it to change borders on a published pattern, and figure out the yardage for what I want to do. I can play, making sure the yardage fits my stash. Or I make the published pattern larger, and can determine the new yardage. I also design stuff to work with my stash, or to work with GO dies that I have. It’s so easy to just play and see what you can create. You can choose alternate layouts, play with secondary designs, and use the actual colors, so you can really see if your design “works” and creates the quilt you want. It’s a great tool, and you can learn more as you create and try new things.” – Maryellen McAuliffe, Mary Mack Made Mine

“EQ7 is easy to use, has wonderful tutorials included in it and there is also great support and help online for the program. I enjoy working the way you can create applique designs in the program, change your fabrics, blocks……it is limitless in what you can create. The accuracy of the amount of fabrics needed for a quilt is wonderful. I use EQ7 for all of my patterns and designs.” – Connie Campbell, Freemotion by the River

EQ software makes it easy for me to design any quilt or block I can imagine. I recently used it to create some intricate paper-pieced star blocks for a Neverland quilt and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I’m hoping I can pass along the fun by giving EQ7 as a gift to a quilting friend.

The feature that I am most interested in is the ability to play with colors and to add fabrics. I am not confident in my ability to pick colors and patterns yet so this software would give me the opportunity to “play” and learn what works and what doesn’t without wasting fabric. I know that I would “grow” in my ability with this tool.

The ability to input my own fabrics into EQ7 and then put them on/into my pattern that I’m designing is priceless! I design Hawaiian theme applique and I love the ability to use the fabrics in my stash. It gives me satisfaction of seeing before sewn and allows me to change at any time. Priceless for designers. I also love the fact that you can “reverse” the designs for applique and create a PDF file that can be edited. Awesome. Thank you..
