Sakura

The temperatures are dropping in many parts of the world. If crisp mornings and chilly nights are not for you, wrap yourself up in Sakura, LoveBug Studio’s sweet floral collection by Kathy Engle, while you dream of warmer times!

Ebony, the designer behind LoveBug Studios, designed and created a gorgeous Block of the Month program, and eight supporting projects. Each supporting project pulls a block from the BOM and expands the design into a full unique quilt or runner!

There is much more to the story, though! Sakura means “cherry blossom”, and Ebony drew inspiration from the Japanese custom of “enjoying the transient beauty of flowers” for each of her pieces. After the Block of the Month quilt, Hanami, each of the supporting quilts is named after a city known for its cherry blossom experience and are shown in order of the blooming schedule!

Kyushu • 48″ x 60″

Shikoku • 30″ x 102″

Chugoku • 72″ x 72″

Kansai • 48″ x 60″

Chubu • 16″ x 51″

Kanto • 21″ x 21″

Tohoku • 42″ x 42″

Hokkaido • 54″ x 54″

Don’t miss the perfectly coordinated Sakura thread collection from Aurifil, curated by Ebony! *all the heart eyes*

Shops carrying this program may be offering the complete Passport Program, which gives you access to not only the BOM quilt but all of the supporting projects. You can find the Hanami BOM and Sakura fabrics at the shops listed below!

Lotus Blooms

The serene Lotus Blooms collection‘s cool blues, purples and greens are featured in the designer projects below from Mountainpeek Creations, Stitches from Heaven, Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design, and Little Louise Designs. You can find these fabrics in quilt shops now!

Morning Glory (68″ x 85″) from Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design is a burst of fresh purple and green, with stars radiating from the quilt’s center, like colorful rays of sunshine! This quilt requires the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star and Tucker Trimmer III tools from Studio 180 Design.

Charming Fractions (52.5″ x 68.5″) from Mountainpeek Creations is a simple and charming quilt, designed to look like fabrics woven together. The large rectangular blocks beautifully showcase the many floral motifs in the Lotus Blooms collection.

Lotus Blossoms (60″ x 67″) by Stitches from Heaven features delicate, ombre Dresden plate fans, greek key border accents, and a colorful yet soothing border that ties the quilt together perfectly. This quilt requires the Stack-N-Whack 15 Degree Wedge Ruler by Bethany Reynolds (BRS Designs).

Missing Links (66″ x 81″) from Little Louise Designs features a chain block variation and calls for the Lotus Blooms Stack and a bright white background. This is a perfect design on which you can practice your freemotion quilting, or give your longarm quilter some space to play!

Which of these lovely quilts fits your style profile the most? Tell us below in the comments! 🙂

Welcome to one of today’s stops on the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 16 Block Tour Road Rally! We’re thrilled to have you here, and to have our fabrics featured in this issue!

The folks at Quiltmaker have LOTS going on this week during the road rally – daily prizes and a souvenir hunt with three grand prize giveaways being the most notable! Learn more about what’s happening during the rally here on Quiltmaker’s Quilty Pleasures blog.

If you haven’t already picked up your own issue of Volume 16, you can find it on newsstands now, or you can download a digital copy from QuiltandSewShop by clicking here.

You’ll find Island Batik fabrics in block #1562, Double X, designed by Tina Dillard of Quilting Affection Designs. Isn’t it fun?

While this block would look fantastic in any color palette, if you fancy the blue and green color family, this block would stitch up especially well in our Zen or Vineyard collection fabrics – both feature a great selection of blues and greens! Pair with our Basic Black and voila!

To celebrate the release of the magazine and the Road Rally, we’re also giving away some goodies! One winner will receive a Mountain’s Majesty Strip pack from Island Batik AND a copy of Volume 16; a second winner will receive an Alpine Ice Strip pack! Both of these collections were just released at Market and yardage isn’t even available on shop shelves yet! Enter using the Rafflecopter widget below until November 18, 2017 at 12:00am.

Empress Garden

The Empress Garden collection by Kathy Engle is simply irresistible with its bright, colorful palette and organic designs. You’ll find a rich rainbow of colors in dots, swirls, mums and cherry blossoms! These fabrics have been featured in three equally alluring designer projects – see them below!

Tiffany (85″ x 103″) by Stitches From Heaven is an Art Nouveau design, reminiscent of Louis Tiffany’s iconic Tiffany lamps. This traditionally pieced quilt features blocks set on point for a dramatic effect. The thin black and thicker orange and teal-multi borders help to give this piece that classic stained glass look!

Amidala’s Flower (28″ x 28″) by Eye of the Beholder Quilt Design showcases the Empress Garden fabrics in the most perfect way! The piece was constructed with Margaret’s signature hand reverse appliqué method – the butterflies and flowers appear to float off the background! The pattern includes instructions for both matching and hand reverse appliqué methods. Read more about this quilt here and here on the Eye of the Beholder website.

Party Crackers (58″ x 72″) by Marlous Designs features a chainlink design and calls for Empress Garden 2.5″ Strips. The pieced binding adds one last POP of color to this already vibrant quilt!

What would YOU stitch with these gorgeous fabrics?! Tell us in the comments below!

Fall 2017 International Quilt Market Recap

Whew! Market is always a whirlwind of Schoolhouse sessions, appointments, and running around the show floor (if we even make it out of the booth, that is)! We pack so much into such a short period of time, it’s enough to make our heads spin!

Even though it’s hard work, it’s also a lot of F U N! We LOVE catching up with our partner shops, giving our designers big ole’ hugs and high fives, and getting excited for the upcoming year with our industry partners. Here are a few highlights from Market weekend!

SCHOOLHOUSE

We kicked off the weekend with a jam-packed Schoolhouse schedule! ByAnnie talked about her Project of the Month program and showed off a whole bunch of samples featuring new Island Batik fabrics. You can learn more about available ByAnnie’s programs and trunk shows on ByAnnie.com.

Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works gave us a look at her newest Signature Collection by Kathy Engle, Blue Moon, and TONS of new designs and quilts. The tuffet from Tuffet Source and adorable Mini Mod Dogs pillows from Colourwerx were not to be missed!

Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis shared her new collection of bright, bold fabrics, Elementz, along with her newest designs (including her FABULOUS foundation paper pieced BOM, the Elementz BOM). She also gave us a look at the small projects that will be featured in the Elementz Blog Hop taking place early next year from designers Sew Many Creations, Bill Locke Designs, Swan Amity Studios, Fat Quarter Gypsy, Seams Like a Dream, and more!

Pauline McArther of Funky Friends Factory shared her funky friends with us, and we couldn’t get enough of them! Special thanks to our Ambassador team for bringing these cute critters to life for us!

We took a tour through the flowering south with Ebony Love of LoveBug Studios, who shared her lovely new BOM and passport program, A Garden for All Seasons and the five coordinating quilts, all featuring hew new Signature Collection, Southern Blooms.

Nan Baker of Purrfect Spots talked promotions and shared great ways to showcase new fabric collections in shops. Nan also shared her many quilts and projects, all featuring her Signature Collection, Northern Woods!

Kari Nichols of Mountainpeek Creations showcased some of her best-selling patterns remade in her Signature Collection, Mountain’s Majesty.

Angie Steveson of Lunch Box Quilts introduced her newest machine embroidered applique quilt, Quiltasaurus, which features Bella Nonna Design Studio’s new collection, City Culture 2.

DEMO ALLEY

Four of our designers demoed their tools, tips, and techniques during Demo Alley, a new event at Quit Market this year! Jayme Crow shared her Boondoggle Ruler which is great for a number of Bella Nonna designs and fun fussy cutting. Jackie Kunkel demonstrated her Links and Curves Template Set and a great curved piecing technique. Kari Nichols demonstrated her Strippy Stars Ruler. Tammy Silvers featured the 30 and 60 Degree Triangle Rulers and how they are used to create the blocks in her new design, Cyclone.

NEW BLOCK OF THE MONTH PROGRAMS

We released four, yes FOUR! awesome Block of the Month programs at Market, each with a very different aesthetic.

A Garden For All Seasons

LoveBug Studios’ newest gem is A Garden for All Seasons. The eight month program features fabrics from LoveBug’s new Signature Collection, Southern Blooms, and is supported with five additional quilt and home decor patterns!

Elementz

The Elementz BOM (quilt on the right of the back wall) is a nine month foundation paper pieced program and features Tamarini’s bright, bold new collection, Elemenz. The paper piecing technique gives quilters perfect points!

Ramblin’ Star

Ramblin’ Star is a traditionally pieced eight month program by Quilting Affection Designs and features the Plum Delicious collection. While not required, this pattern can be made using Studio 180 tools OR Bloc_Loc rulers!

Hostas

Bella Nonna Design Studio’s first Block of the Month, Hostas, features gorgeous green and white hosta leaves against a rich background of plums and is made with the City Culture 2 collection! The six month program uses raw edge appliqué techniques.

Ask your local quilt shop about these programs NOW! If you have a shop, you can enroll in any of these programs right now through your sales rep or by calling the Island Batik team at 760-602-0607.

THE PROMISE GIRLS EXPERIENCE

We’re thrilled to launch The Promise Girls Experience with industry partners Studio 180 Designs, Aurifil, Author Marie Bostwick, Canton Village Quilt Works, and Kensington Publishing. This is a new type of program for shops that stems from Marie’s latest book, The Promise Girls. If you’re a Marie Bostwick fan, or love to read and quilt, this event is for you! Ask your local quilt shop about the program and how you can be a part of it!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by at the show, and to all of our designers, Ambassadors, and industry partners for making this another successful show!

Diner Days

Isn’t this foodie-inspired collection just fabulous?! At Market, people came into the booth to get a closer look, thinking it was a vintage reproduction collection! The pastel fabrics in Diner Days feature kitchen utensils, apple and citrus shapes, eggs, and fun dots and swirls, and are featured in projects by Christine Quilts, Sew Many Creations, and It’s Sew Emma. Check them out below!

Tail Feathers (60.5″ x 72.5″) from It’s Sew Emma features one pieced block, rotated to create wonderful movement. With the great shapes in these fabrics, the piece is almost transformed into an “I Spy” quilt!

Square Peg (67″ x 70″) from Sew Many Creations features, you guessed it, lots and lots of squares! Rows of square blocks separated by vertical sashing strips really show off the Diner Days fabrics!

The Fab Folders (9.5″ x 12.5″ folded) by Christine Quilts are just perfect for meal planning and prep, and organizing your recipes and grocery list for the week! Of course, they make for great cases for any notebook, built with a pocket and place to slip in a legal pad.

Doesn’t this collection make you want to stitch up an apron and spend the day baking away? It is pie season, after all! 😉
